We performed the seismic assessment of several buildings hosting school complexes. The structures are mostly characterized by a mixed structural system, constituted by masonry walls and reinforced concrete frames.
The buildings, with total surface of approx. 2500 m² and mainly rectangular footprints, are constituted by two or more storeys above ground with bearing systems composed by unreinforced masonry walls and an internal reinforced concrete frame. Floor diaphragms are constituted by mixed reinforced concrete/hollow brick slabs, whilst the roof are supported by steel frames.
The seismic assessment of the buildings included the following tasks:
- Finite element modelling of the structure using a nonlinear macroelement approach;
- Seismic assessment of the global behaviour of the structure using non-linear analyses;
- Out-of-plane assessment of the sub-structures with non-linear analyses of the local mechanisms of collapse.
