Design of a fuel dosing tower

We designed an alternative fuel dosing tower for a kiln burner of an industrial complex for Entsorga S.p.A. in Hungary.

The structure is a 27-m-high steel tower having 5 floors above the ground and a rectangular footprint measuring 6 m by 10 m. The lateral stability of the structure was ensured by providing moment resisting frames (MRF) in the transverse direction and X-type bracing systems in the longitudinal direction. X-type bracing systems were also provided in the transverse direction for the 11 m high lowermost level of the tower.

An important aspect of the design process was performing dynamic analysis. Verifications against explosive loads had to be also carried out due to the presence of several mechanical systems on different levels of the tower. All verifications were carried out as per the relevant Eurocodes and in some cases, the American codes ASCE 7 and AISC 360-10.
